O primeiro grupo da Orquestra Juvenil da Bahia chegou a Salvador nesta terça-feira, dia 25 de fevereiro. Depois de mais de 15 horas de viagem – entre São Francisco (Califórnia) e Salvador, com uma escala em Miami (Flórida) -, os jovens músicos retornaram a seus lares comemorando o sucesso da Bahia Orchestra Project, a turnê de três semanas pelos EUA. O segundo grupo de músicos chega a Salvador nesta quinta-feira (27).

 

The first group of musicians from the Orquestra Juvenil da Bahia arrived in Salvador on Tuesday, Feb. 25. After over 15 hours travelling – from San Francisco (California) to Salvador (Bahia), with a layover in Miami (Florida) -, the young musicians returned to their homes celebrating the success of the Bahia Orchestra Project, a three-week tour throughout the US. The second group of musicians arrive in Salvador this Thursday (27).

A Orquestra Juvenil da Bahia encerrou a turnê Bahia Orchestra Project com mais um grande concerto em solo americano. A apresentação foi realizada no Weill Hall do Green Music Center, em Rohnert Park, Califórnia, que tem capacidade para 1800 pessoas. No programa, obras que já tinham sido executadas durante a turnê, como a Fantasia Romeu e Julieta, de Tchaikovsky e Danzón n.2, de Arturo Márquez. Como grandes surpresas da tarde – o concerto começou às 15h -, o público assistiu à participação do pianista francês Jean-Yves Thibaudet na execução de dois bis especiais: o primeiro, após a apresentação do Concerto para Piano de Ravel em que Jean-Yves é solista, quando ele e o maestro Ricardo Castro executaram o movimento da obra Ma mère l’oye de Ravel “Le jardin féerique” numa versão a quatro mãos; o segundo, ao final do concerto, quando ele se juntou à orquestra para apresentar o Tico-Tico no Fubá, de Zequinha de Abreu.

“Conheço a música mas eu tive um pouco de medo de tocá-la, não é uma música que eu sou acostumado a tocar. Nós começamos a ensaiar e eu tocava rápido demais. Ao final eu entendi, é a percussão que dá o ritmo. Depois que entendi isso ficou fácil. Ao final me diverti muito tocando, foi diferente pra mim e é a linguagem deles.” – Jean-Yves Thibaudet, pianista

“A participação do Jean-Yves foi um presente nessa turnê. Ele é um solista de primeiro nível e um ser humano totalmente aberto, divertido, alegre. Era tudo o que a gente precisava para curtir essa turnê. No último concerto ele tocou com a camisa do NEOJIBA. […] Eu tinha muita expectativa para este último concerto. Tive que trabalhar muito com a energia da orquestra para chegar ao final desta forma. É minha tarefa como diretor fazer com que as coisas funcionem para que na hora certa a gente possa fazer a festa. Ela aconteceu e os meninos estão prontos para começar outra turnê hoje. É uma energia impressionante […] e também a equipe de produção e de comunicação foi expecional durante a turnê. The Orquestra Juvenil da Bahia has just ended the Bahia Orchestra Project tour with another great concert on American soil. The presentation was held at Weill Hall at Green Music Center in Rohnert Park , California, which has a capacity for 1,800 people. In the program, pieces that had already been performed throughout the tour, like the “Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture” by Tchaikovsky and Arturo Márquez’s “Danzón n.2”. As big surprises of the afternoon – the concert began at 3 PM – the audience saw the participation of the French pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet on the execution of two special encores: the first one, after the presentation of Ravel’s Piano Concerto, in which Jean-Yves is the soloist, when he and conductor Ricardo Castro performed the movement of “Ma mère l’oye by Ravel “Le jardin féerique” in a version for four hands; the second encore was at the end of the concert, when Jean-Yves joined the orchestra to present the Tico-Tico no Fubá by Zequinha de Abreu .

“I know the song but I was a little bit afraid to play it, it’s not a song that I ‘m used to play. We started rehearsing and I played too fast. Finally I understood that it’s the percussion that dictates the rhythm. Once I got it, that was easy. In the end, I had so much fun playing, it was different for me and it is their language.” – Jean-Yves Thibaudet, pianist.

“The participation of Jean-Yves was a gift on this tour. He is a top-level soloist and an open, fun, cheerful human being. It was all we needed to enjoy this tour. During the last concert he played wearing a NEOJIBA T-shirt. […] I had a lot of expectations for this last concert. I had to work very hard with the energy of the orchestra to reach the end like this. It’s my job as a director to make things work so that at the right time we can celebrate. It happened, and the kids are ready to begin another tour today. It’s an amazing energy […] and also the production and communication team was exceptional during the tour. We have a group to go even to other planets if necessary” – maestro Ricardo Castro, founding director of NEOJIBA.

A Orquestra Juvenil da Bahia realizou nesta noite de sábado o penúltimo concerto de sua turnê pelos Estados Unidos. Mais de 1000 pessoas encheram a plateia do Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, localizado em Davis, no condado de Sonoma, Califórnia. A atual temporada da casa já recebeu, dentre outras, a Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, e ainda contará com apresentações da San Francisco Symphony e do pianista Murray Perahia.

Antes da apresentação desta noite, o maestro e coordenador musical do NEOJIBA, Eduardo Torres, participou de um “pre-talk” com o público, que também teve a presença do pianista francês Jean-Yves Thibaudet, solista da noite. Eduardo pôde contar para a plateia um pouco sobre o NEOJIBA e o funcionamento de suas atividades.

O concerto apenas confirmou o sucesso absoluto que a Bahia Orchestra Project vem fazendo pelos Estados Unidos: aplausos de pé, três bis e um público extasiado ao deixar o teatro. A orquestra segue amanhã para Rohnert Park, também no condado de Sonoma, para encerrar a turnê.

The Orquestra Juvenil da Bahia held this Saturday night its penultimate concert of the U.S. tour. Over 1,000 people filled the audience at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, located in Davis, in the Sonoma county, California. The current season of the Center has received, among others, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and will also feature presentations from San Francisco Symphony and pianist Murray Perahia.

Before the presentation tonight, the conductor and musical coordinator of NEOJIBA, Eduardo Torres, attended to a “pre-talk” with the public, which also had the presence of French pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, soloist of the night. Eduardo had the opportunity to let the audience know a little bit about NEOJIBA and how its activities happen.

The concert only confirmed the absolute success the Bahia Orchestra Project has been doing across the United States: standing ovations, three encores and an entranced audience leaving the theater. The orchestra keeps on its way tomorrow to Rohnert Park, also located in Sonoma county, to end the tour.

O décimo concerto da Bahia Orchestra Project terminou agora há pouco. A Orquestra Juvenil da Bahia se apresentou no Performing Arts Center em San Luis Obispo (CA). O maestro Ricardo Castro regeu a primeira parte do concerto e no retorno do intervalo convidou o jovem regente Yuri Azevedo para comandar a orquestra. No momento do bis, a orquestra tocou o “Mambo” de Leornard Bernstein em agradecimento a um grande ator americano (vamos chamá-lo de “Tom”), que foi o responsável por levar os integrantes do NEOJIBA para o passeio no Universal Studios Hollywood, ontem à tarde. Ao final, eles se despediram do público ao som do frevo ‘Vassourinha’.

The concert number 10 of the Bahia Orchestra Project has just finished. The Orquestra Juvenil da Bahia performed at the Performing Arts Center in San Luis Obispo (CA). Maestro Ricardo Castro conducted the first part of the concert and after the interval he invited the young conductor Yuri Azevedo to lead the orchestra. For the encore, the orchestra played the Bernstein’s ‘Mambo’ to thank a great American actor (let’s call him “Tom”), who was responsible for taking the members of NEOJIBA for a visit at Universal Studios Hollywood, yesterday. In the end, the young musicians said goodbye to the sound of frevo ‘Vassourinha‘.

O Los Angeles Times publicou no dia 21 de fevereiro uma crítica elogiando o primeiro concerto da Juvenil da Bahia no Valley Performing Arts Center, em Northridge, CA, nos arredores de Los Angeles. O LA Times é o quarto jornal mais lido nos Estados Unidos. The Los Angeles Times published on Feb. 21 a review praising the first concert of the Orquestra Juvenil da Bahia in the Valley Performing Arts Center in Northridge, CA, on the outskirts of Los Angeles. The LA Times is the fourth most widely read newspaper in the United States. Already on the title of the article, the Orchestra gets a compliment: ‘Airily elegant Bahia Orchestra Project‘. “[In Beethoven’s Emperor] there was a surprising lightness, even delicacy, to the sound. […] the sense of soloist and orchestra being in tune with each other. Something very special happened. The Bahia players tuned into that sound and that airiness with a bright, light, percussive quality that was a touch jazzy and utterly vibrant.

“The second half of the program featured the fourth of Villa-Lobos’ ‘Bachianas Brasileiras’ and the 1919 version of Stravinsky’s ‘Firebird’ Suite. Both were sensations. In the Villa-Lobos, color was everything. Percussion sizzled. The strings swung. The winds were individuals. Alluring melodies took hold and would let go.”

The nineth concert of the Bahia Orchestra Project has just happened in Northridge, on the surroundings of Los Angeles, California. Maestro Ricardo Castro conducted the first piece, ‘Batuque’, by Lonrenzo Fernandez, and afterwards invited the young conductor Yuri Azevedo to lead the orchestra until the end of the concert. The program was special: it included only Latin pieces, like Danzón n.2 by Arturo Márquez, and Brazilian pieces, such as’Sonhos Percutidos’ by Welington Gomes and ‘Na Baixa dos Sapateiros’ by Ary Barroso. At the end of the concert Yuri Azevedo introduced jamberê, tuba player of NEOJIBA, who is responsible for the arrangements of some of the Brazilian music performed by the Orquestra Juvenil da Bahia at the Valley Performing Arts Center.

Before another afternoon of rehearsals for the second concert in Northridge, California, members of NEOJIBA payed a visit the Universal Studios Hollywood in Los Angeles. They had the opportunity to know the studios where some of the most important American movies were filmed, and also enjoyed several attractions scattered throughout the complex.

Today the Orquestra Juvenil da Bahia performs one more presentation. The ninth Bahia Orchestra Project concert takes place once again at the Valley Performing Arts Center. Today the young musicians have the ‘Samba Spectacular’ program, with Brazilian and Latin American pieces, under the baton of young conductor Yuri Azevedo.

Aconteceu agora o oitavo concerto da Juvenil da Bahia nos Estado Unidos na cidade de Northridge, Califórnia. A Orquestra executou o Concerto para piano n.5 “O Imperador”, de Beethoven. The eighth concert of the Bahia Orchestra Project tour has just happened in the city of Northridge, California. The Orchestra performed the Piano Concerto n.5 “The Emperor” by Beethoven. Below is the emotional testimony that the pianist Stewart Goodyear gave right after he left the stage of the Valley Performing Arts Center.

“What happened with the Emperor tonight…
I felt everything jelled, I felt that it was magic what was happening. It was a great privilege to work with this orchestra.

I hope to work with you guys again. All my warmest regards, my greatest respect for all of them.”

A Orquestra Juvenil da Bahia acaba de apresentar o sétimo concerto da turnê Bahia Orchestra Project, em Aliso Viejo, Califórnia. O maestro Ricardo Castro regeu a Orquestra no Soka Performing Arts Center. O concerto contou novamente com a participação do pianista francês Jean-Yves Thibaudet que, além do Concerto para piano e orquestra em Sol Maior, de Ravel, executou o Intermezzo Andante Teneramente, da 6 Klavierstücke Op.118 de Brahms.

Hoje também foi um dia de estreias no repertório da turnê: a versão completa das Bachianas n.4 de Villa-Lobos, o Pássaro de Fogo de Stravinsky e, no bis, Candide Overture do americano Leonard Bernstein, uma homenagem anunciada por Ricardo Castro ao microfone antes da execução. As outras peças do bis foram as brasileiras Aquarela do Brasil e Tico-tico no Fubá.

The Orquestra Juvenil da Bahia has just presented the seventh concert of the Bahia Orchestra Project tour, in Aliso Viejo, California. Maestro Ricardo Castro conducted the Orchestra at the Soka Performing Arts Center. Once again the concert had the participation of the French pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, who performed Ravel’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in G Major, and as an encore the Intermezzo Teneramente Andante, from Brahms’ 6 Klavierstücke Op.118.

Today was also a day of firsts in the repertoire of the tour: the full version of Bachianas n.4 Villa-Lobos, the Firebird by Stravinsky and, on the encore, Candide Overture by American composer Leonard Bernstein, a tribute announced by Ricardo Castro on the microphone before the execution. The other pieces of the encore were “Aquarela do Brasil” and “Tico-Tico no Fubá”.

Nesta segunda-feira, 17 de fevereiro, a Bahia Orchestra Project chegou à simpática cidade de Santa Bárbara, a 130 km de Los Angeles, para apresentação no Granada Theatre, uma das mais belas salas de concerto da turnê até agora. Cerca de 1500 pessoas lotaram este teatro, que possui uma temporada de altíssima qualidade, tendo já recebido este ano, na mesma série em que a Orquestra Juvenil da Bahia se apresentou, alguns dos nomes mais importantes da música de concerto no mundo, como Itzhak Perlman, a Orquestra Sinfônica Nacional da Estônia e a Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Em maio receberá ainda a Los Angeles Philharmonic de Gustavo Dudamel.

A plateia mais uma vez aplaudiu de pé a Juvenil da Bahia, sob regência de Ricardo Castro, ao ver a execução das obras de Tchaikovsky, Ravel – com Jean-Yves Thibaudet -, Revueltas, Villa-Lobos e Marquez, além de Aquarela do Brasil e Tico-Tico no Fubá como bis.

On this Monday, February 17th, the Bahia Orchestra Project arrived in the lovely city of Santa Barbara, 80 miles away from Los Angeles, for the performance at the Granada Theatre, one of the finest concert halls of the tour so far. About 1500 people packed this theater, that has a world class season, having already received this year, in the same series as the Orquestra Juvenil da Bahia, some of the most important names of classical music in the world, such as Itzhak Perlman, the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. In May they still welcome Gustavo Dudamel’s Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Again, there were many standing ovations for the Juvenil da Bahia, who performed under the baton of Ricardo Castro, the pieces by Tchaikovsky, Ravel – with Jean-Yves Thibaudet -, Revueltas, Villa-Lobos and Marquez, besides Aquarela do Brasil and Tico-Tico no Fubá for the encore.
